The village of Deir El Kamar is the birthplace of Prince Fakhreddine, in the 16th century, a druze who fought valiantly and kept lebanon free under the Ottoman empire timeframe. The shadow is that of a minaret, the only one in the Christian village of Deir El Kamar: this is the original house where Prince Fakhreddine was born.
The fountain in the middle of the plaza is a spring. During the 1975-1991 war, this water was the only source of water for the entire village, Pop 5000.
The late afternoon sun, backlighting the fountain with a nice halo, gives a center of attraction of this photograph. The people gives a sense of size, and provide more dynamism to a rather static view.
