September 2003, a family trip to Sand dunes. The dunes were crowded with people rolling or snowboarding on the hills. A short hike gave me a serene point of view, where the dunes rolled smoothly in shapes and shades of waves of sand.
The clouds in the sky were a blessing that day: the heat was barely tolerable, and this picture, surprisingly, was taken right at noon, when, usually, the light is far from ideal for landscape photography. Serendipity has it, a cloud covered the sun for a short while, barely enough to shoot a series of the dunes in the soft overcast light. The opening within the clouds, showing a cool blue sky, contrasted the warm colors of the sand dunes.
