Colorado National Monument is probably one of the least known red-rock canyons in the southwest. This is the only red rock canyon in the state of Colorado.
It is situated near Grand Junction, on I-70, close to the state borders with Utah. John Otto is probably the person behind making this canyon a national monument.
This photograph was taken at sunrise, from Otto’s viewpoint on Rim Drive. The rising sun baths the sheer cliffs with a warm glow. The old juniper in the foreground gives an idea of the distances involved in this canyon.
