Paihia, a town in the Bay of Islands, north of Auckland in New Zealand: I woke up one morning to a misty rain. The sky was heavily overcast: no chance of any colored light at dawn. I decided to stay in Paihia, and focus on intimate landscapes. I stumbled across this black plant
The core of this plant is a bright yellow, contrasting heavily with the dark purple-black outer leaves. The rain drops added a interesting pattern. The overcast sky allowed for higher contrast overall. Decentering the plant, and orienting it slightly toward the outer edge of the frame, added dynamism to a still picture.
