Spain has three major cultures. The Castilian makes the largest part of Spain, centered on Madrid, speaking the Spanish language, as we know it. The Basque, living in the north west of Spain and south west of France, speak a non-Latin language, closer to Hungarian and Finnish than to Roman or Latin languages spoken in the area. And the Catalan, centered on Barcelona, speak the Catalan language, which is in structure close to the Spanish and the French languages combined.
The Majorca Island is part of Catalonia. It is spelled Mallorca in Spanish. It is a major tourist destination for Northern Europeans, who migrates to the sunny beaches of Spain during the hot months of summer. Palma is the commercial and cultural center of Majorca.
The building pictured is the “Lonja”, built in 1426 by the most distinguished sculptor and architect Guillermo Sagrera, as a traditional fish auction house. The building is rectangular, and is the most beautiful building on the whole island.
