US6 provides a shortcut from Golden to Idaho Springs, on I-70. This shortcut is actually a very scenic road, running for 12 miles next to the river, in a deep canyon.
On a late afternoon in January, the low sun was bathing the canyon walls with a golden color cast, and reflecting in the slow waters. The snow on the ice, in the shadow, has a slight bluish cast, due to the color of the sky. There is a beautiful contrast between the warm yellow light and the light blue shade of the snow.
