A few miles from Death Valley, Zabriskie point is an elevated overlook of a colorful, undulating mud hills. The colors varie with the direction of light.
The dried salt lake can be seen behind the hills. The backlight on the funeral mountains, in the background, accentuates the mist.
This photo was taken at about 6 p.m. in March, when temperature are still mild and enjoyable. March is probably the best month to visit Death Valley, with all the flowers blooming, and acceptable temperatures during the day.
