I have visited Moab and the surrounding National Parks at least 10 times over the last 5 years, and every trip is another source of amazement for my senses. I cannot get enough of seeing the breathtaking views of red rocks, arches, cliffs and canyons, extending to the greater infinity.
In April 2004, we headed to Canyonlands National Park, near Moab, Utah. The view of the LaSal Mountains, at a distance, capped with snow, was an amazing sight. As the storm was getting closer, I looked feverishly for a foreground subject, and this dead Juniper provided the silhouette I needed. I exposed for the sky, knowing that the dark clouds and the dark silhouette of the tree will add drama to the final result.
The main contrast in this photo is between the cold snow capping the LaSal Mountains, and the expected heat of the high desert in the foreground. But the interesting one, in my opinion, is between the intricate branches of the Juniper tree, and the smooth snowy surface of the LaSal Mountains at the distance.
