When Louis XIV, the "Roi Soleil", decided that the Louvre is too small, he started a project to build a new castle outside of the Paris, 20 miles south west, in Versailles. Up to 22,000 workers and 6,000 horses were working on the construction project at one time.
The gardens of the chateau de Versailles are unique as well. Every year, 150,000 plants are planted. Along the numerous pools and waterfalls, lies a huge cross-shaped pool, called "Le Grand Canal" and "Le Petit Canal". At the nearest point of the cross-shaped pool, near the gardens called "Petite Venise", is a boat rental utility to row on the cross-shaped canal.
The sharp colors of the rowing boats contrasts superbly with the repeting pattern of the boat shapes.
